FCS Day is a day celebrating Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) education, held annually on December 3rd to honor our founder Ellen Swallow Richards, known widely as the founder of "home economics". The FCS Program at SMC has been revived since its closure in the 1990s. We have currently approximately 70 students enrolled this semester in FCS classes ranging from Introductory Level, Personal Finance, Food & Nutrition, Lifespan Development and Career Exploration/Job Shadow. Next semester: Parenting & Culinary are offered. We have an active FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter of over 40 affiliated members, one district officer and have had multiple STAR Event state qualifiers in our four years as an affiliated chapter.

Please join us in welcoming Seth Gollhofer as our new Facilities Coordinator for the parish and school. Seth and his wife, Amy, have four children, two of whom attend St. Mary’s Colgan Catholic Schools. He will begin his role at the end of this week. We’re grateful to have him on board.

St. Mary’s Elementary teachers participated in their first in-person LETRS training. Up to today, all the work in this program has been online modules and reading the text assignments. All this work will prepare our teachers to use the Science of Reading to teach our students to be successful readers…and receive a Seal of Literacy on their teaching license! We thank our teachers for their commitment to excellence in the classroom.
